JSON parser: format, validate and explore nested data
Use the JSON parser when an API response or configuration file is difficult to read. Formatting changes whitespace; a tree view helps you locate a value without scanning the entire document. Valid JSON can have an object, array or scalar at its root.
How to use the tool
- Paste JSON or import a local JSON file. The input is processed in your browser.
- Check validation first. If the input is invalid, use the reported location to check quotes, commas and closing brackets.
- Format valid input and switch between code and tree views to inspect nested values.
- Copy or download the result. Enable remember-input only if you want a browser-local draft; name a snippet for repeated use.
An example to test
{"user":{"id":10086,"name":"Alex"},"roles":["reader","editor"],"active":true}Validation and repair are different
Strict validation rejects duplicate keys, unsafe integer values, malformed strings and incomplete structures. Repair is a separate action: review its result before using it because the intended meaning of malformed input is not always recoverable.
Large identifiers and browser storage
Represent identifiers beyond JavaScript’s safe integer range as strings. Drafts and snippets are stored in the current browser rather than an account. Clearing a draft does not clear the current editor input; clearing browser storage removes locally saved data.
Frequently asked questions
Why is a trailing comma rejected?
JSON does not allow trailing commas or comments. Remove them, or explicitly review the result of the repair action.
Does switching tools mix my snippets?
Parser snippets and diff pairs have separate categories. Choose the matching category when loading a saved snippet.
